Annette Marten, Staten Island’s very accomplished artist, is talented in many mediums. Among them are oil, watercolor, collage, and printmaking. Her innate talent was enhanced by studying oils at the College of Staten Island with Professor Pat Passlof and printmaking with Herman Zaage at the Art Lab. Attendance at The Art Students League and The National School of Design in Manhattan allowed practice and refinement of her ability.
Among her most notable achievements was a first prize for her watercolor, POPPY AND ME in the 1999 International Year of Older Persons. As an added prestige, it has been placed in a time capsule at the College of Staten Island to be opened in the year 2049.
Stories of the presentation to our 41st President George H. Bush, appeared in the Staten Island Advance of the following watercolors: WALKERS POINT, A RAINY DAY AT WALKER’S POINT and AUTUMN AT WALKER’S POINT. They are in the Texas A@M Library, a timeless reminder of Annette Marten’s vacation at Kennebunkport, Maine.
Annette Marten’s signed, limited edition prints of her original watercolor, BRIDGING THE GAP, raised $2,000 from private donations to aid the victims of the 2004 tsunami disaster.
Along with New York and New Jersey television shows, The Broome Street Gallery, The National School of Design, The Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences, The Newhouse Gallery, and The Tibetan Museum are among the galleries and museums that have exhibited her art.
She is an active member of several Staten Island artist groups: The South Shore Artists Group, The Artists Federation, Harbor Artists Guild, Snug Harbor Art Lab, and The Staten Island Artists Association where she served a term as president.
